C – Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team


Even if you are currently feeling well, your answers show that you should be referred to the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Community team.

Specialist Perinatal Mental Health teams work with women in pregnancy and postnatally who have pre-existing mental health difficulties as well as those who may be experiencing this for the first time. They have the expertise to support you and help you find the right help at this important time.

The referral can be done by any health professional involved in your care such as your midwife, GP and Health Visitor.

Pathway E – Maternal Mental Health Service

Maternity Mental Health Service’s offer specialist therapy during pregnancy and up to 2 years postnatal to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of women who have experience of birth trauma, pregnancy related health anxiety, as well as offering support to women who have experienced loss or bereavement in the perinatal period.

You can find details of your closest Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team here: Community Team, they will be able to advise you of local support services, as well as being able to signpost you to the Maternal Mental Health Service or another appropriate service (if applicable) for support.
